Welcome to Children's Centre Leader

We are committed to the achievement of children’s centre aims, equality and the highest standards of professionalism. We aim to continue to publish FREE of charge, on a quarterly basis and maintain the strong editorial legacy. We will continue with the amazing contributions from the group of dedicated writers and experts who have support CCL so far, and invite others to contribute as well.

Children’s Centre Leader (CCL) journal is published four times each year and is available online free to all children’s centre leaders and associated professionals in children’s services. The opinions expressed in the CCL journal are those of the contributors and not necessarily those of the Editors. The journal is unfunded and we value networking with a range of exciting charitable, third sector and social enterprise organisations to make a difference for children and families.

James Hempsall, OBE, chairs the board of trustees at Children’s Centre Leader. He is also Director of Hempsall’s, an executive coach, and a volunteer counsellor/psychotherapist. James acts as the National Support Director of the DfE’s support contract for the implementation of 30 hours childcare across England (Childcare Works). James has worked in the sector for over 25 years. He is a former playworker, children’s centre manager, further education lecturer, development worker and projects manager for a national childcare charity. Between 2012-2016 he was the National Support Director of the DfE’s support contract for the implementation of 15 hours early learning for least advantaged two-year-olds (Achieving Two Year Olds) for which he was awarded the OBE for services to childcare.
